Art Deco Fountain of Light
The Fountain of Light is located on the east wall of the grand lobby in the Paramount Theater, Oakland, California. Designed by Timothy Pflueger, the theater itself is one of the most beautiful remaining examples of Art Deco design in the United States. One of the first Depression-era buildings to combine the work of a number of creative artists into its architecture, it is particularly noted for its successful melding of the various artistic disciplines. The theatre was painstakingly restored in 1973 and was entered in the National Register of Historic Places on August 14th of that year. On May 5, 1977, the Paramount Theatre was declared a National Historic Landmark.
